- By DAVID WHINYATES Special Correspondent

STUDENTS coming to the end of their school years will experience a practical approach to choosing the right college course for them this March, as more than 30 subject areas will be offering “Try it” activities at Solihull College & University Centre’s upcoming open events.

Subject areas involved include animal management, aerospace engineering, early years, motor vehicle, sport, travel and many more. Students will also have the opportunity to explore the new stateof-the-art science facilities, virtual reality lab and aircraft hangar, plus find out about the college’s apprenticeship programmes.

John Callaghan, college principal, said: “Our offer is a real alternative to academic routes. Our provision is designed to give you the opportunity to get into employment or to progress to higher education and study at our University Centre or an alternative university of your choice.”

In addition, the college will be holding an open event for its professional and university-level courses, many of which are delivered in partnership with leading universities. The university courses are aimed at students progressing from college or sixth form, as well as adults who would like to get back into education as a means of career change or progression.

New degrees on offer include history & English literature, games design & virtual reality and creative film production.

The college’s School Leaver & University Level Open Events will be taking place at Blossomfield Campus on Tuesday, March 6, and Woodlands Campus on Wednesday, March 7, both between 5.30pm and 8pm.

Visitors are advised to check the college website for more details as some subjects are specific to either campus. For more information and to pre-register, visit www.solihull.ac.uk
