More snow on the way

-

SNOW, ice and wind could cause major disruption across Coventry and Warwickshire.

The Met Office has issued an amber warning for snow and ice across much of the West Midlands, with a yellow warning for wind and snow in other parts of the region.

The amber warning is from 2pm today to 8am on Friday, while the yellow warning is from 9am today to 11.55pm tonight.

And it is set to be another bitterly cold day with temperatures only getting as high as -2C, with lows of -6C in the evening.

What is an amber warning?

This means there is an increased likelihood of bad weather affecting you, which could potentially disrupt your plans and possibly cause travel delays, road and rail closures, interruption to power and the potential risk to life and property.

Amber means you need to be prepared to change your plans and protect you, your family and community from the impacts of the severe weather based on the forecast from the Met Office.

The amber warning states: “There is the potential for a spell of snow, moving northwards over southern Britain on Thursday, to intensify and become heavy on Thursday afternoon/evening as it spreads north.

“As it does so, some places could also see significant ice build up overnight into Friday.

“This is likely to be accompanied by strengthening easterly winds.

“Long delays and cancellations to public transport could occur, whilst some roads may become blocked by deep snow, stranding vehicles and passengers. Long interruptions to power supplies and other utilities could occur.”
