A PAEDOPHILE pensioner is behind bars after demanding that he be sent to prison.

Retired teacher David Mills has admitted child sex offences and was due to be sentenced at Warwick Crown Court - but showed without a barrister in his corner.

This led to the judge advising him to seek legal representation before sentencing was carried out.

But Mills told the court: “I demand to be sentenced today. I want it to happen today.”

Mills, 71, of Goodyers End Lane, Bedworth, was appearing to learn his fate after pleading guilty to four counts of indecent assault on a boy under the age of 16 and two counts of inciting a boy under the age of 16 to commit an act of gross indecency.

Mills showed at Warwick Crown Court with a bag of items ready to go to prison and was adamant that would happen.

Judge Sylvia de Bertodano asked Mills: “Have you prepared yourself to go to prison today?” “Yes,” he replied. The judge then stated: “I can remand you in custody to start your sentence, but also give you the chance to get a solicitor before we put a figure on [the sentence].”

Mills agreed to this, but added: “I do not want to have legal representation.”

Therefore, Mills was remanded in to custody with full sentencing to take place at a later date.
