Hundreds of speeding drivers caught after safety concerns

- By CLAIRE HARRISON Nuneaton Reporter

HUNDREDS of speeding motorists have been caught following patrols around Bedworth estates after safety concerns were raised by householders.

Residents pleaded with police to make speeding a priority in the north and west areas of town, asking for more visible patrols from officers.

As a result of the concerns raised at the Bedworth North and Bedworth West Community Forum, Bedworth Safer Neighbourhood Team (SNT) officers carried out extra speed enforcement patrols and it has led to a huge number of motorists being caught breaking the law.

Camera vans were put in place in School Lane and this led to 146 offences being recorded in just nine visits.

In Vicarage Lane, the vans detected 18 offences over five visits and in St Giles Road there were 40 offences clocked over six visits.

In Longford Road, 122 offences were detected over seven visits.

“Local Police took some ownership of the road-related issues forming their priorities to focus on over the coming month,” said a spokesperson for the team.

As well as speed enforcement, SNT officers will also be looking at concerns around parking, particularly causing obstructions on pavements and near junctions

“The area will be monitored by mobile SNT patrols,” the SNT spokesperson added.

“If obstructions merit further police action, this will be done. If parking matters warrant action by other partnership agencies, then they should take on responsibility.”
