BOSS ON WINNING SQUEAK!

Robins can see the funny side of Evans-inspired fans’ chants

MARK Robins has applauded the humour of the Coventry City fans who made light of Steve Evans’ comments during the win at Wycombe on Tuesday evening.

Marc McNulty’s second half penalty sealed an excellent three points at Adams Park midweek, but among the more memorable moments of the evening was the travelling Sky Blues supporters’ newly invented chants for manager Robins.

He was the subject of a rant from Evans last weekend, after the Sky Blues left Mansfield with a 1-1 draw and a share of the spoils.

Evans, who has since left the One Call Stadium to take up the manager’s job at Peterborough United, said after the game: “I’ve just watched Robins, little Robins, the manager who thinks he should be the manager of England, absolutely slaughtering Danny Rose on the field of play – ignored.

“We’re going to have counter attacks when they’ve got players like [Marc] McNulty, [Jonson] Clarke-Harris and [Michael] Doyle on big money, and little squeaky Robins, who says that they don’t do all that stuff.

“Just leave my players alone Robins, I’ll be speaking to you myself.”

It led the City faithful to offer up chants of: ‘There’s only one squeaky Robins,’ and ‘Squeaky, gives us a wave, Squeaky, Squeaky gives us a wave’ as they watched their side see off the Chairboys.

The manager, it’s fair to say, approved!

“I think the sense of humour from the crowd at Wycombe was magnificent,” Robins joked. “The chants were funny and I thought it was brilliant. I was giggling to myself in the dugout whilst also telling the players not to be repeating those songs.

“They’ve had their fun now. I prefer the original version over the remix. I thought it was really funny.

“I think they were shouting more Mike Bassett than England manager!”

Jordan Willis looks likely to return for the Sky Blues today against Lincoln after serving a one match ban after being sent off at Mansfield, despite Dom Hyam’s strong performance in central defence.

But aside from long-term casualties Tom Davies, Jodi Jones and Tony Andreu, Robins has a full squad to pick from.

City goalkeeper Corey Addai has joined Dulwich Hamlet on loan.

Addai, 20, has signed for the Isthmian League Premier Division side for one month in a deal which runs until March 31.

He also spent time on loan at Hendon FC, who play in the same division as the Hamlet, earlier this season. He is yet to make his senior debut for the Sky Blues and this loan move is seen to be the next step in his development.

Addai joined City in 2014 from Arsenal and after catching the eye in City’s youth academy over a two-year period, the keeper was handed his first professional contract in 2016.

The 6ft 4” player’s new temporary side currently sit in third place in their division and are two points off financial high-rollers Billericay Town who are the league leaders.
