Public loos to be demolished

THE flush will be officially pulled on two blocks of public loos in Nuneaton and Bedworth as they are set to be demolished.

It has been revealed that Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council (NBBC) plan to demolish the public toilets in Mill Street in Nuneaton and Chapel Street in Bedworth.

At the budget setting meeting at the Town Hall it was announced, as part of cost-cutting measures, that the two blocks of loos would be closed.

But now the Town Hall has applied for permission to pull down the two buildings.

In the applications, it states: “Due to budgetary constraints and cut backs it is no longer feasible to open and maintain all NBBC owned facilities in the town centres.”

Decisions about if the toilets can be bulldozed are expected to be made at the end of April

There was outrage at the plans to shut the lid on the two blocks of toilets but the local authority says it will save £30,000 and it plans to upgrade the remaining loos.

The plan was attacked by the opposing Conservatives who say that it is an ‘unnecessary and unfair’ cut to local services.

But the ruling Labour group said that difficult decisions had to be made due to the cut to its grant from the government, and that people will still have access to council-owned loss – by the bus station in Nuneaton and near to the market in Bedworth.
