Amtico to open huge new facility in the city
A COVENTRY manufacturer whose upmarket flooring is highly prized all over the world over is set to open a new facility in the city.
Amtico, will be expanding its Coventry footprint by opening a new seven-acre plot at the Pilot Park Business Park on Thursday.
The Pilot Park facility will become the central nationwide distribution hub for Amtico’s extensive range of luxury vinyl tile flooring and commercial carpet.
It will also house Amtico’s new training academy, which will offer eight dedicated courses for flooring contractors and installers across the UK.
Amtico’s CEO Jonathan Duck, who is also regional chairman of the West Midlands CBI, will welcome guests and cut the ribbon to officially open the facility.
The new showpiece building is close to Amtico’s existing Coventry factory, meaning the company will retain existing staff.
It is not clear at present whether any new jobs are being created.
Amtico currently employs more than 400 staff at its head office in Kingfield Road, Coventry.
The new facility has been constructed to a high environmental standard and features solar panelling on the roof, a cyclonic water irrigation system, a bio digester and electric charge points for employees’ cars.
Mark Halls, head of logistics at Amtico, said: “We were very keen to obtain Pilot Business Park – it’s close to our factory so we can retain our staff and continue to support the local economy, something that’s important to us.
“It’s a good size, well-constructed and meets all our needs for accessibility and sustainability.
“Amtico consider Pilot Business Park to be our showpiece building, supporting the future growth plans for the business.
“It will allow us to expand our warehousing and flooring school training facilities – supporting increased sales and production levels as well as new product ventures.”
Amtico is a market leader in vinyl tile flooring with a long heritage.
For more than 50 years it has been designing and manufacturing its innovative flooring in Coventry.
