Butchers raided and charity boxes taken

-

A THIEF forced his way inside one of Nuneaton’s most-loved butchers to steal two charity boxes.

Frank Parker butchers in Abbey Green was the target of the raid.

The intruder helped himself to two charity boxes, both for the Warwickshire and Northamptonshire Air Ambulance (WNAA).

“It is so sad,” said a spokesperson for the well-known family butchers.

“We have the boxes by the hot food and people tend to put their change in and we also put the money from the bones in there, so there is normally quite a lot. Last year we gave £1,400 to the air ambulance, it’s hard to say what was in the two boxes, but that is not the point. We want to catch the scumbag.”

The firm has only just recently had CCTV cameras installed following another break-in.

“We got broken into about six weeks ago, which is why we had the CCTV installed,” the spokesperson said.

“That time they stole a bit of money we left in the tills, so now we don’t leave any money in the tills. You can see from the CCTV that he goes round the back of the counter to look for the tills but when he realises they are not in there, he goes for the charity boxes.”

The business posted the footage on its page on Facebook and it has been shared thousands of times, prompting lots of people getting in touch with the established business.

“People have been so good. People just can’t believe someone would steal charity boxes.”

Anyone with any information about the raid, which happened at around 1.30am on Thursday morning (March 15), should call police on 101 or the Crimestoppers hotline, which is free to call from a landline and confidential, on 0800 555 111.
