MONEY from ticket sales for the BBC’s Biggest Weekend ticket sales will be kept by the corporation to cover the cost of staging the event, it has been revealed.

We posed the question to the BBC after Telegraph readers asked us where ticket revenue was going to when we revealed Coventry City Council was spending £300,000 of taxpayers’ money to deliver the “biggest single music event ever planned by the BBC”.

A BBC spokesperson said: “Money raised from ticket sales contributes to the running costs of The Biggest Weekend in order to provide the best experience for our audience.”

A huge list of names have been announced for BBC’s Biggest Weekend in Coventry on Sunday, May 27, and Monday, May 28.

On the Sunday, Stereophonics and Liam Gallagher join the likes of Snow Patrol, Billy Ocean, Paloma Faith and Jamie Cullum in taking to the stage at the War Memorial Park – which has already sold out.

Acts playing on Monday include The BBC Concert Orchestra, Eliza Carthy and the Wayward Band, GoGo Penguin and Nigel Kennedy. You can still grab tickets for their performances.

The city council has pointed out that the £300,000 cost of bringing The Biggest Weekend to Coventry is a one-off payment – and the economic benefit to the city could run into millions of pounds.

There are more than 175,000 tickets available to the public across the four sites, with 25,000 per day for Coventry.

Tickets have been geographically weighted with a percentage available to each of the local areas, giving Coventry residents the best chance of securing tickets.

Across the weekend, there will be extensive TV coverage on BBC One, BBC Two and BBC Four and sets will be available on BBC iPlayer, mobile and online. BBC spokesperson
