All council flats in borough to get CCTV

- By CLAIRE HARRISON Nuneaton Reporter news@trinitymirror.com

ALL council flats across Nuneaton and Bedworth will soon be watched over by CCTV cameras to tackle problems with rowdy and booze-fuelled behaviour.

So far Meadow Court, Lexington Court, Lydgate Court, Park Road and Tom Ellis Court have all had new systems installed.

It follows concerns raised by residents in a survey carried out by Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council, which saw incidents of rowdy and drunken behaviour feature high on the gripes’ list.

Despite having fixtures and fittings in place, the CCTV has yet to be installed at Dillon Court in Nuneaton.

That delay is down to technical problems says councillor Julie Jackson, cabinet member for housing at the Town Hall, who said that the new CCTV systems will help improve residents’ lives.

“We are installing CCTV within a number of housing complexes to provide greater peace of mind for our residents,” Cllr Jackson said.

“The work is being undertaken in direct response to feedback from our tenants – our most recent Tenants Satisfaction Survey highlighted concerns with instances of rowdy and drunken behaviour in neighbourhoods and the installation of CCTV will support our work with the Police in reducing these problems.

“The final installation in the programme is at Dillon Court, where our progress has been delayed by technical problems experienced by BT Openreach. As we are in the hands of a third party supplier we are unable to give a firm date for the installation at this site, however we anticipate that it will be sometime in April.

“As always, we work closely with our Residents’ Partnership to ensure that we shape our services to best meet the needs of our tenants. We continue to invest in tenants’ homes in the ways they tell us matter most to them; in addition to CCTV, we have put in place programmes to upgrade heating systems, kitchens and bathrooms in many of our properties, as we know that these are priority issues for tenants. We are also further improving our fire safety arrangements.”

Cllr Jackson went on to conclude: “The council is listening to what our tenants are saying and directing resources appropriately.”
