Sigh of relief for Addleton as Lions secure first win in 10

RUGBY Lions head coach Dave Addleton conceded he ‘breathed a sigh of relief’ after recording the side’s first win in ten games.

A run of nine defeats since early December’s win over Hereford saw the Lions dragged into the Midlands One West relegation picture with games fast running out.

But a comprehensive 45-10 victory at fellow strugglers Camp Hill extended the gap between the clubs to nine points with games fast running out.

“There is some breathing space between us ans we did breath a sigh of relief,” said Addleton.

“The lads are working hard, they don’t want to lose, but some times you need to ride the storm and it came good on Saturday.

“There’s still a lot to work on but it boosted our confidence, boosted the supporters as well. That made a difference.”

Tries from Alex Tansley, Ash Williams, Sam Herrington and James Wilsher-Aiken plus a brace of Stuart Lee were supported by 15 points from Dave Weston as Lions converted an 18-7 lead at the interval to a 45-10 success.

“It was one of the best performances of the season,” said Addleton.

“We stuck to the game plan and the lads worked hard for each other.

“Obviously we had a few guys back from injury like Sam Herrington, Charlie Paxton, James WA and a few others.

“To be fair to Camp Hill they had their chances and worked hard we were just a lot more clinical than we have been for a long time and we took our chances well.

“Dave Weston got a penalty in the first two minutes. He’s kicking well and it’s always good to know you’ve got a kicker in good form to keep the scoreboard ticking over. It all worked well for us on the day.”
