Hospital staff were all angels

-

I WAS recently admitted to the George Elliot Hospital as an emergency with heart and breathing problems.

From the time the ambulance came to my admittance to the hospital I could not have been looked after better if I had gone private. I was attended to as soon as I arrived. I was later taken to the CDU Ward.

I was looked after so well even though they were short staffed. I can not thank and praise all the staff at GEH enough. They are all angels and are working so hard. Nothing was too much trouble.

I am back home now and I am getting better day by day, I have been told it will take time. I have to go back for four more appointments in April.

I would also like to say a big thank you to my doctor at Springhill Medical Centre, Dr Craggs. She was the one who realised how ill I was and arranged the ambulance. Janet Smith

Memories of Coventry School

I WAS a pupil at the City of Coventry School between September 1959 to March 1961. My form masters were Alan Thorne, Geoff Oxendale (my housemaster), Cyril Partridge, Alan Elkins-Green, Mike Chopping, Ken Foy, Alan Breeze, and Gordon Plaice. I was in Dudley House (D40). Parents’ visits were once a term if it was a 10-week stay, and twice if it was a 13 week stay. The headmaster was RT Morris who died at the end of 1960, and was succeeded by Derek Lambley (who previously was Deputy Head). On Saturday we could go to the local cinema for 1 shilling. We had to attend church every Sunday morning. The first three terms I did well in the exams. In Spring 1960 I was top of the class and the prize I chose was the Observer Book of Cars which I still have to this day.

The coach company which took us there, I believe was M&M, a local operator from the village. I can still remember some of the pupils’ names from those days.

We had ‘head of table’ in the dining room and I still recall their names Peter Stokes and Warren Shepherd another name that comes to mind is Dave Squires (of Squires Gear/ Engineering). The above three are around 73 and 74 as I have recently celebrated my 70th. In 1983 there was a reunion at the Standard Triumph Recreation Club and three of the masters from the time I was at the school, attended the event, Alan Thorne, Gordon Plaice and Cyril Partridge.

I worked at the car factory between 1969-1980 and later worked as a bus and coach driver for Mike de Courcey. Geoff Hodkinson Chapelfields
