DON’T USE OUR FIRE STATION AS CAR PARK
BOSSES HIT OUT AT INCONSIDERATE MOTORISTS IN TOWN
INCONSIDERATE drivers using Bedworth Fire Station as a car park are putting lives at risk by wasting precious time crews need to get to emergencies.
Officers at the Park Roadbased station say that it is becoming a daily occurrence that motorists are parking on the forecourt and it is having a potentially life-threatening impact on their work.
In a post on the station’s page on Facebook, alongside a rogue’s gallery of photographs highlighting the dangerous problem, it states: “Park it, don’t plonk it”.
“We have been having a lot of trouble with inconsiderate drivers using our drive as a turning circle or a place to drop people off. This is happening regularly on a daily basis and has delayed us responding to emergencies. Please park responsibly.”
Their concerns have been echoed by chiefs at Warwickshire Fire and Rescue Service, who reiterated the importance of the ongoing Park it Right campaign, which aims to highlight the dangers of irresponsible parking, not only on streets but also outside stations. “We would urge all our residents to please not use the forecourt of our stations as free parking. There is the possibility that they may block our firefighters responding to an emergency call. They may even prevent them from leaving the station when they park in front of the bay doors. This may be the difference of saving a life or attending a fatality. Please stop and think and Park it Right.”
The Park it Right campaign was launched in 2016 in a bid to put the brakes on the amount of drivers parking dangerously, potentially blocking access to emergency services like the fire service.
