NUNEATON TOWN PUT UP FOR SALE

MOVE COMES AS CHAIRMAN STANDS DOWN

- > CLAIRE HARRISON REPORTS:

A NEW era awaits Nuneaton Town Football Club as the club and ground have been put on the market again after its chairman sensationally stood down.

Lee Thorn announced on Saturday night that he was stepping down from the helm of the club after more than three years.

In doing so, he revealed that he would also be selling the club and the ground. In what was a hat-trick of announcements, it has been revealed that the club will be reverting back to its former name, Nuneaton Borough, as of next season.

This was an ambition that the club and Nuneaton Town Supporters Club set out to do in November last year.

It is the second time that the club and ground has been put on the market.

Last time, there was some interest from Chinese buyers but a sale did not come to fruition. But Nuneaton Town Supporters Club (NTSC) could now step in and try and play a part in the club’s future.

In a statement NTSC say that they have already had ‘positive’ responses to plans to make the club partowned by the community but need to make them ‘concrete.’

NTSC are aware of Lee’s intention to step down,” the statement reads.

“We thank him for his efforts over the years and his incredible work with the academy.

“We are currently investigating a number of avenues to see the football club become at least part owned by the community, however to do that, we will need the support of local businesses to make this club what it is.

“Early next week, we will be speaking with Supporters Direct to discuss our options.

“We have reached out to a number of people who have a long-standing interest in the club and have had some positive responses but we need to make those concrete. We will be meeting with people this month to discuss how best to make the Borough a hub of community once more and invite any interested partes to get in touch with us. It signs off: “Up the Boro.’ The announcement comes just days after the firm that runs the club, Boro Leisure Ltd, had a winding up case dismissed at the High Court.

It also comes as the team ended its season with a 2-2 draw with Blythe Spartans at the LDJ Stadium.
