DRIVERS FACE MORE MISERY AS MAJOR ROAD TO CLOSE

SURFACING WORK WILL SHUT PARTS OF ROUTE FOR TWO WEEKS

- By CLAIRE HARRISON Nuneaton Reporter news@trinitymirror.com

MORE motoring misery is on the horizon as a congestion-hit major route in Nuneaton will be closed for just over two weeks.

On top of all of the roadworks taking place in the area, Warwickshire County Council has confirmed that Eastboro Way will be shut, in phases, between Tuesday, May 8 and Wednesday, May 23.

It has been revealed that the works will take place between 9.30am and 3.30pm, meaning access to the major route will be blocked.

In a move to try and help ease disruption, the road surfacing works will be carried out in two phases.

The first phase will start on May 8 to May 15. During the first phase Eastboro Way will be partially closed northbound and traffic will only be able to use the southbound heading towards Coventry.

The second phase will take place from May 16 to May 23 with Eastboro Way partially closed southbound and traffic able to travel on the northbound heading towards Hinckley Road. To help reduce impact on local businesses in Camborne Drive, the county council has said that

resurfacing work in the area outside the shops and the pub, is planned to be carried out at night on Friday, May 11. “The closure dates and the diversion route have been previously advertised,” a Shire Hall spokesman said.

“We are also distributing letters to nearby residents to inform them of the planned closure and out site supervisor will be visiting individual businesses to ensure that their accesses are maintained and their deliveries are co-ordinated. Advanced signage for the closure will be erected to make drivers aware of the upcoming closure.”

The area is already playing home to a series of roadworks, most notably the project to widen the A47 The Longshoot. This includes the widening of the existing carriageway and footway, to accommodate the proposed traffic signals, central refuge splitter islands and new cycle route.

They too are being carried out in two phases.
