Sport Fisher aiming to net top spot and sink the Sirens

- Wasps star George Fisher

WASPS Netball’s George Fisher has her sights set on becoming Superleague top scorer and is aiming to increase her tally against Sirens this weekend.

The league leaders travel to Glasgow-based Sirens’ Emirates Arena home tomorrow (2pm centre-pass) – seeking an 11th successive victory in the Vitality Netball Superleague.

Fisher, 19, who is currently the Superleague’s second top scorer with 406 goals in the opening 10 games at a shooting percentage of 87, believes increased time on court has aided her development.

“The more you play, the more confident you feel and I definitely believe that it is showing in my performances,” she said.

“It would be incredible to top the scoring table this season.

“I played a few games last year but this is my first full year and to achieve that would be amazing for me and would mean the team is also doing well. I’m just pleased to be out there on court and while there are a lot of things I can improve on, I’m really enjoying this season. Sirens have a few players back from the Commonwealth Games so I’m sure they will be on a high and fired up to compete.

“We want to push on but Sirens have good defenders and we’ll have our work cut out.

“Leah Kennedy is a prime example.

“She is great at coming forward and challenging the ball,” Fisher added.

“She will be on the body the whole time which will make it quite difficult for us.”

Wasps faced Sirens in their first ever Superleague fixture in 2017 and have come away victors in each of the clubs’ three meetings including a 69-37 win at the Ricoh earlier this season.

Wasps’ next home game sees them face Loughborough Lightning on Saturday, May 26 (7pm centrepass).

Tickets that game at the Ricoh Arena are available from www. waspsnetball.co.uk/tickets.
