Brothers up for street food award

-

SUMPTUOUS cheesecakes that have taken diners not only in Nuneaton but across the country by storm are now up for a national street food award.

Brothers Tony and Ash Jackson were inspired to take their mouthwatering array of cheesecakes out on the road after they were such a huge hit on the menu at The Whitestone restaurant - and so Urban Cheesecake was born.

Now, less than a year after Urban Cheesecake was launched, the desserts have become so popular they have featured at street food festivals across the country.

Tony Jackson, who runs the Whitestone, explained: “To be honest, Urban Cheesecakes, was something my wife and I were talking about on the beach on our honeymoon, we talked about perhaps having a little stall in Nuneaton town centre, but it has become something so much more than that.

“At the Whitestone our cheesecake always had a great reputation, then we started working on changing the toppings and changing the sauce and it just went from there.”

Since July last year, Urban Cheesecake has featured at some of the best food festivals and have become a huge hit with food-bloggers.

“Some of our cheesecakes have featured on Ladbible and gone viral, some of them have had 19,000 views, we couldn’t believe it,” he said.

The secret, it seems, lies in the fact that customers can customise their dessert you can choose what sauce and what toppings you want to adorn their base white chocolate cheesecake.

Sauces include sea salted caramel, chocolate truffle, raspberry coulis, alphonso mango and Terry’s chocolate orange, while toppings feature chocoate brownie, Flake, Reese’s peanut butter cup, Crunchie and orange Aero.

The brothers’ passion to push the boundaries of cheesecake art, in terms of flavour, led to Tony entering the British St Food Festival awards 2018.

Out of 3,000 entries into the deserts section of the competition, Urban Cheesecake was chosen to go through to the regional finals, which will be held in Derby on June 15 and 16.

If Urban Cheesecake comes out on top at the regional heat, the brothers will then go on to compete for the national crown, which also includes entrance into the Great British team which will compete on European food awards in the summer.
