FOODBANK’S DESPERATE PLEA TO FILL ITS SHELVES

- By CLAIRE HARRISON Nuneaton Reporter news@reachplc.com

VITAL supplies for Nuneaton’s in-demand foodbank are in desperate need of replenishing as it continues to be the place people turn to stop their families from facing hunger.

Volunteers from Nuneaton Foodbank are hosting a huge food drive to collect what they have described as ‘vital supplies’ so that they can keep helping those who need it most.

Latest figures have shown that, in 2017 to 2018, the Foodbank provided 4,363 three-day emergency food supplies to local people in crisis, of which 1,551 of these went to children.

David Stanier, Nuneaton Foodbank manager, said the statistics highlight the importance of the huge drive they are staging at the Asda store in Nuneaton.

“No-one in Nuneaton should need a Foodbank’s help and we want to see an end to local people needing emergency food,” he said.

“Until that time, we’ll continue to provide vital support when it matters most - but in order to do so, we rely on the community’s donations. “We’re only able to offer emergency food, a welcoming space to chat over a cuppa and additional support because of the incredible generosity shown by local people. We’d love to have your support during the food drive at Nuneaton Asda to ensure we’re stocked up on the food we need to provide help to people from across Nuneaton.”

The food drive is running at the Newtown Road-based superstore every day from now until Saturday, May 25 and it is a part of the new threeyear Asda ‘Fight Hunger Create Change’ programme.
