How much do students have to pay to live in Coventry city centre?

NEW blocks of student flats seem to popping up across the city at a rate of knots, and there’s more on the way.

It seems that students have no end of accommodation options open to them - but just how much do they have to pay to live in the city centre?

Some rooms will come with access to a range of swanky facilities including gyms, cinema rooms and outdoor space, whereas others are more modest and may offer just the essentials of a shared bathroom and kitchen.

But it may surprise you to hear how much a room in the city will set a student back.

Here’s our lowdown.

Priory Hall, Coventry University ‘s oldest student accommodation building, is a popular choice for the city’s students - but even that doesn’t come cheap.

Although, residents of Priory Hall do get catering provided for them for five days a week and have a shared kitchen to see them through the weekend.

A room in a shared flat or either seven or 12 students costs £150 a week, which works out at £600 a month per student.

That’s about the price you’re looking at for the newer blocks of the selfcatered student blocks across the city too.

Millennium View, which opened just last year, has en-suite rooms arranged in flats of seven to 10 residents.

As one of the city’s newest and smartest halls it doesn’t come cheap - students pay either £151 or £154 a week to stay there.

You’re looking at a similar price for Gosford Gate, which opened just a year before.

Both Millennium View and Gosford Gate are ran by Coventry University’s accommodation partner Unite Students.

It isn’t an easy task finding a cheap student room in the city, even if you’re willing to live in just one room.

A micropad at CRM Students’ Mercia Lodge on Broadgate, which packs a bedroom, kitchen and bathroom into just 13 square metres, costs a total of £130 per week.

A slightly cheaper option is a twin bed studio, or twudio, which two students can share.

Lots of these style rooms can be found in the city but as a rough guide a studio in Coventry University’s Godiva Place building costs £125 per week for each person.

These prices might already seem staggering but there are some students willing to pay even more for their university digs.

The 33 Parkside flats, ran by Prestige Student Living, offers an “unrivalled luxury living experience” according to its website.

The brand new block will open later this year and as part of the package residents can enjoy a cinema, fitness suite, gaming lounge and a roof terrace - it does, however, come with a heftier price tag than others in the city.

The cheapest option in this luxury block is a two-bedroom apartment which will set each person back £180 a week. Students opting for the premium mezzanine studio, which is split over two floors and comes complete with a kitchenette, en-suite bathroom and balcony, will pay £225 a week.
