Warning after fox cubs in town found poisoned

- By CLAIRE HARRISON Nuneaton Reporter news@reachplc.com

FOX cubs have died after suspected poisonings - prompting the angry owner of Nuneaton’s wildlife sanctuary owner to plea: “This has got to stop”.

Geoff Grewcock, who founded the Nuneaton and Warwickshire Wildlife Sanctuary, branded the spate of sad deaths as “horrifying” and urged anyone with any information behind the incidents to come forward.

“We had three fox cubs come in last week, on separate occasions but from the Crow Hill area, and it looked like they had been poisoned with anti-freeze,” he explained.

“I am horrified, it is hard to describe the words on how I feel about this, it is a very, very slow death, it attacks the organs and it is horrible to watch.

“It is being deliberately done and what they won’t realise is that it is not just a danger to foxes, dogs and cats but young children too.

“If they get it on their hands and then put their hands in their mouth, they are at risk of being poisoned as well.”

He appealed to people who have any information to call the police: “This is a wildlife crime, it has got to stop, these people have to be stopped.

“I would urge anyone with any information to either ring the police on 101 or the anonymous hotline, I don’t really care how they do it, as long as they do it and these people are caught.

“They are putting so many lives in danger.”

Anyone with any information should contact police on 101 or the Crimestoppers hotline, which is free to call from a landline and confidential, on 0800 555 111.
