New plan for college homes set to be revealed

- By CLAIRE HARRISON Nuneaton Reporter

A MASTERPLAN to build homes on Nuneaton’s biggest college land is being prepared before being put before decision-makers.

North Warwickshire and Hinckley College has confirmed it is carrying out a range of surveys prior to officially asking for planning permission to build up to 220 places to live on the Hinckley Road campus .

Earlier in the year the college hosted a public drop in event to showcase the initial plans and more than 200 people turned up.

Their input, says the college, has been included in the masterplan, including concerns about parking.

But the new look plans are not yet ready to be revealed.

“The planning team has been analysing the feedback and reviewing the masterplan, as well as discussing the plans with external agencies.

“As part of the review process, the College is conducting a range of surveys to help prepare for the submission of a planning application,” said a spokesperson for the college.

“The college continues to take account of the issues raised through the consultation process, including car parking, and should be able to share details of its latest plans in the near future.

“The college is committed to retaining a strong presence in Nuneaton and plans include high-quality campus facilities at the current location.”

Concerns were previously raised about the need for the homes, the loss of football pitches, extra traffic and the lack of car parking spaces.

In the first plans, the existing sports pitches, the student car park and the engineering centre, floristry and horticulture and engineering blocks would go.

Then it was stressed that some, not all, of the engineering will be transferred to MIRA while floristry will continue on the site as will the nursery and Glebegate restaurant.

The college, which has been at the site for 60 years, says that the housing plan will ensure that it continues to provide a high-quality student experience and is ‘fit for future developments’ in the provision of further education.
