KASBAH nightclub has confirmed it will be closing – but only temporarily.

Coventry clubbers nearly dropped their glowsticks when a cryptic post from the Kasbah suggested the club was closing its doors.

The flagship club changed its Facebook profile and cover photo earlier this week to a black background with white writing saying ‘It’s time to say goodbye 07/07/18.’

Customers of the popular venue quickly picked up on the change and fears were sparked the nightspot was calling time in Coventry.

However, the nightclub has now confirmed it is only for a couple of months.

Its Facebook post read: “The rumours are true, we will be closing on Saturday 7th July for a refurbishment – it’s about time we changed a few lights and we may give the toilets a lick of paint while we’re at it! Tickets for our closing night with Icarus will go on sale at 9am on Thursday 21st June from www.kasbahnightclub.com and once they are gone, they are gone. We’ll be back in September – keep an eye out on Facebook for more information on our opening night.”

They also caused a stir among their Facebook audience after a post later appeared on the page of Kasbah Nightclub saying ‘public service announcement’ and attached seemed to be a screenshot of a Tweet.

The Tweet appeared to have come from the West Midlands Police official Twitter account to say their switchboard had been clogged up with calls about Kasbah closing down.

It said: “999 is for emergency only. The Kasbah closing down is NOT an emergency so can you please stop calling us as you are clogging up the switchboard. Thank you.”

However a search of the force’s verified account, which has over 450,000 followers, showed no sign of the Tweet. There a numerous websites and apps which allow users to create images of fake Facebook and Twitter posts.

The Facebook post received hundreds of comments, shares and reactions from people following the Facebook page titled ‘Kasbah Nightclub.’

When contacted by the Telegraph, a spokesman for West Midlands Police said: “We are aware of it.

“We have a relationship with them so it’s going to be a case of talking to them about it.”
