New look pub for town centre

-

AN historic Nuneaton pub is being given a huge makeover and a brand new name in homage to the town’s drinking past.

Work is underway to completely transform the inside of the Granby pub.

Not only is it being given a new look, the pub, also known to many as Bilberries and the Granby’s Head, is being given a new name - The Black Swan in Hand.

This, according to the pub’s new page on Facebook, is in homage to some of the town centre’s pubs of the past.

“The name has been derived from a number of town centre pubs that have been closed or demolished,” the Facebook page says.

“The Black Horse in Wheat Street closed in 1959 and demolished, the Heart in Hand in Wheat Street was closed 1959, the White Swan in Market Place closed 1962 and the Black Swan in Croft Road closed in 1970.”
