Staff honoured at hospital awards
DEDICATED staff at Nuneaton’s hospital were honoured for their efforts at a glittering awards ceremony.
Once again, the George Eliot Hospital held its ‘Team Eliot’ awards to reward the contributions from its hardworking staff and volunteers.
Opened by Chairman Prem Singh and hosted by Midlands Today broadcaster, Shefali Oza, nine awards were given in total, as well as a host of long service awards for dedicated members of ‘Team Eliot’ who have worked with the NHS for 30 or even 40 years.
In what was a special tribute, the Chairman’s Choice award was renamed the Stuart Annan award, in memory of the hospital’s late chairman who died suddenly in October last year.
His wife, Colleen, gave a touching speech in which she told staff how much Stuart had loved the hospital before presenting the award to Oncology Clinical Nurse Specialist, Alison Syborn. Other winners on the night were: Leader of the Year – Jo Stincavage, Elizabeth Ward
Patient Safety and Quality Improvement Award – Richard Cubbon
Non-clinical Support Services Award – the Access to Health Records Team
Patient Choice Award – Daljit Chohan
Team of the Year Award – The TB Team
Seeking Excellence Award – The Infection Prevention and Control Team
Working Together Award – Undergraduate Medical Education Admin
Volunteer of The Year Award – The Patient Forum
It was outgoing chief executive Kath Kelly’s last official engagement before Glen Burley took over the position this week.
She was surprised on the night with speeches, a letter of warm wishes from George Eliot’s ‘twin’ hospital – Nilda Patricia Hospital in Cuidad-Sandino, Managua – and gifts from her colleagues.
Chairman, Prem Singh said: “We received more than 140 nominations for the nine award categories – an amazing response. All the staff in the room were winners and I thank them for their continuing hard work and dedication.
“I would like to thank the awards judging panel who volunteered their time and energy to scrutinise the entry nominations and decide the finalists and winners. Thanks must also go to our sponsors who made our fantastic awards night possible.”
