Family connections to St John’s church

-

WITH reference to your request for memories regarding St John the Baptist Church (Jul 17).

I was christened there in 1938, and my grandparents, Helen Hewitt and Abraham Whitehouse, were also married there.

I was married at Stoke St Michael’s because I lived in Longfellow Road. However, when my daughter was going to be married, we looked at St John’s but unfortunately there is not a lot of suitable space for photographs outside the church, so this was rejected in favour of St Barbara’s, our local church.

During my life I have considered St John’s to be my family’s church and have attended many church services there, plus family funerals. My grandparents were regular churchgoers and I remember my father taking them to St John’s midnight mass every Christmas Eve, whatever the weather.

Unfortunately for me, apart from going occasionally to have a look inside the church, the only time I visit is to attend monthly meetings for the Osteoporosis Society which are held in St John’s meeting room. Rene Whitlock Earlsdon Lottery. The letters requests the recipient ring a number whereupon an ‘administration fee’ of five per cent of the winnings is required before the monies are paid.

This letter, which looks very authentic, is a scam.

I contacted the People’s Postcode Lottery and was advised that I was the second person in Coventry to contact them about this.

They pass the information onto the Action Fraud squad.

Thankfully, I’m not naive enough to fall for this, lovely as it would be, but other ‘senior’ people may be taken in and, subsequently, lose their savings.

Do not be fooled by these amoral fraudsters. G Stokes Cannon Park
