Another car stolen in latest keyless theft to hit the city

A CAR was stolen in Coventry in the latest keyless theft to hit the city.

The Mercedes S Class car was taken from Applecross Close, in Canley, at some point between 12am on Sunday, July 22, and just before 8am on Monday, July 23.

West Midlands Police say the incident was a keyless theft and officers are searching through CCTV footage in a bid to catch those responsibl­e.

They are also appealing for any witnesses to call them on 101 and quote crime reference 20CV/166163W/18.

Last month we reported that another Mercedes - this time a C300 - was stolen from its owner’s driveway in Coventry while he slept inside.

The car was taken from outside the house in Pembury Avenue, Longford, in the early hours of Tuesday, June 12.

Owner Luke Wilson said the thieves must have used a device to steal the car as it is keyless.

Anyone with informatio­n on that theft can call West Midlands Police, quoting crime reference 20CV/130529H/18. A 21-YEAR-OLD cyclist has died after a collision with a car in Coventry.

The man, who lived in Coventry, suffered serious injuries after a BMW SUV collided with the electric bike he was riding.

The incident happened in Avon Street in Stoke at around 10pm.

The victim died in hospital on Sunday night.

Det Con Jo Wright of West Midland Police’s Serious Collision Investigat­ion Unit, said: “We are continuing to investigat­e the circumstan­ces around the tragic death of this young man.

“We are focused on identifyin­g the occupants in the car and we are keen to hear from anyone with informatio­n or who witnessed the incident.

“We are also appealing for anyone who may have CCTV or dashcam footage to come forward. This could hold vital informatio­n to help with our enquiries.

“The family are receiving support from family liaison officers and, our thoughts are with them following their loss.”
