LEGENDARY comedy duo Paul and Barry Chuckle entertained audiences for decades, but for a while, they were based in Warwickshire.

The Chuckle Brothers were well established entertainers in their own right, appearing on shows such as Opportunity Knocks in 1967, but they burst on to the scene with a programme of their own - ChuckleVision.

And better yet, for five series,’ the show was filmed in Warwickshire.

Barry Chuckle tragically passed away aged 73 over the weekend, so here at the Telegraph, we’re taking a look back at all the times the entertaining twosome have wowed viewers in the area.

ChuckleVision enjoyed a 21-series run, spanning from 1987 to 2009.

But for five of those series, TV’s most famous brothers were based at Hatton Locks, near Warwick.

Though many of the episodes are filmed on location, much of these five series were filmed in Warwick and Leamington.

Paul Chuckle confirmed this in a tweet, several years ago. Coventry was not left out, either. In series six, episode 12, “Airport Assistance”, the brothers find themselves working as airport security.

Unsurprisingly, they got into all sorts of mischief in the episode - with the airport scenes filmed at Coventry Airport .

It is also believed that another episode was filmed at a Network Rail building in Westwood Heath during the 1990s.

Since the conclusion of the programme, the brothers have kept busy, making appearances at music festivals and club nights.

The brothers kept their fans in Coventry and Warwickshire close on many occasions, visiting the Colly and Bedworth Civic Hall.

Only this year, in February, Barry and Paul visited the Kasbah for a meet and greet with fans.

A charity single with Tinchy Stryder became an internet sensation in 2015, with more than three million views on YouTube.

They visited Bedworth Civic Hall on tour in 2013,.

Perhaps their biggest performance saw the duo take to the stage at Bestival in 2015. In yet another Cov connection, at this time, the Chuckle Brothers booking agent was Ben Hathaway, the man responsible for booking the Godiva festival, and has worked with Tom Clarke and The Enemy.

The Chuckle Brother’s manager Phil Dale said in a statement to the Press Association: “It is with great sadness that the family announce that Barry passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his wife Ann and all his family. The family would like to express their thanks to the many people who have been fans of the Chuckle Brothers.”

His comedy partner Paul said: “I’ve not just lost my brother, I’ve lost my theatrical partner of many, many years and my very best friend.”

Tributes have poured over from the world of comedy and TV, with many fond memories of Barry’s work.

Author Terry Pratchett tweeted: “He and Paul took daft to a blessedly new level. RIP Barry Chuckle.”

CBeebies presenter Chris Jarvis wrote on social media: “On screen he was hilarious, on stage even more so but off stage Barry was also the kindest of gentlemen.”

The family would like to express their thanks to the many people who have been fans of the Chuckle Brothers.
