Lamb’s got chops for a new deal!

-

WARWICKSHIRE have extended the contract of homegrown all-rounder Matt Lamb until at least the end of the 2020 season.

Lamb, 22, came into the Bears’ pathway at the age of ten before progressing into the club’s Academy.

He signed his first professional contract in 2016 and made his senior debut later that year, following a series of high scores in the second team.

He has now played 11 County Championship games for the Bears, scoring 482 runs and taking three wickets.

“I love playing for the Bears and I’m thrilled to extend my time here for at least another two years,’’ said Lamb.

“I’ve played several championship games and had a taste of the One-Day Cup, but I’m ambitious and want to take my game across all three formats and make major contributions to further team success.

“We’ve got a strong squad and competition for places is always tough, but I just need to keep working hard and taking every opportunity I can.”

Ashley Giles, the Bears’ sport director, added: “It’s always pleasing to see players who have come through the club’s pathway step up to play a full part in our senior squad.

“Matt is an impressive cricketer who works very hard at both elements of his game.

“He has the potential to play a major role for Warwickshire and Birmingham Bears for many years to come and we’re delighted he has committed to our long-terms plans for the club.”
