I voted leave then, and I’d do it again

-

SO more of us would now vote to stay in the EU (Aug 16)? Well I voted leave, and I would now vote leave again even more resolutely than before.

If anyone has not been convinced by the Machiavellian, megalomanic behaviour of the EU both before and during the negotiations that the EU is truly evil then there is no help for them.

The EU is run by ruthless, authoritarian fanatics who will stop at nothing to achieve their goals, crushing everything in their path, and we can’t remove them.

As Cameron found out to his cost, they are totally inflexible and there is no negotiating with them. The EU is a place for political mediocrities to achieve power and fame.

The organisations which commissioned this survey along with the People’s Vote are totally disingenuous. Most people will see through the ‘democratic’ facade of Hope not Hate and know them as the remainers that they are, desperately making a last ditch attempt to stop Brexit. The report claiming that a new referendum would favour remainers, published in your paper, reeks of data torture. Fearful that any open poll would prove them wrong and discredit their claim to be speaking for the people, they have resorted to this fudge of YouGov polls, census information and data from the ONS.

Britain does not, and never did, belong in the EU. Its traditions of judge made law based on the ideas of equity and common law, rather than decrees from on high are directly contradictory to those of continental Europe. This is why there are so many moans whenever a new EU directive is foisted on us. We do not work that way, and I see no need to change it.

Leaving the EU and all its institutions is absolutely imperative, as for those who are concerned about their childrens’ future outside it, who knows? Don’t listen to project fear. If we take the opportunities presented to us by leaving seriously we will do well, certainly I fear for the young people if we stay in. Martin Pinder Allesley Park

Water main woes for Keresley folk

ONCE again Keresley was cut off due to a large water main which burst on Sunday, August 19.

The old pipe work that remains over most of Keresley is inadequate and so we do not know when such problems will arise.

Sadly, properties were affected. Severn Trent were on the scene very promptly and worked relentlessly to fix the cause.

Keresley folk were subjected to a part bus service, going only to the Shepherd Pub on the Keresley Road, beyond that point, only going part of the way with many stops left without service.

The council had been informed but sadly their dynamic lethargy prolonged the road opening, making it longer than anticipated.

The sad fact is, in our technical modern world, things seem to be so difficult for people to communicate. What is wrong when people working together, such as Severn Trent and others, to talk to one another? It is a complete waste of time when one or the other have not got permission to fulfil the repair.

The bus company will have to have a emergency route established for the future so people are not cut off completely.

Therefore I am requesting that the Coventry City Council highways department, along with the bus company and any utility companies who have to work in the Keresley area, work together to remedy such problems for the future.

This road closure lasted for several days, giving people concerns for work, appointments and hospital visits. Sandra Camwell Chair of Keresley Parish Council Bennetts Road South

Economic migrants can be stopped

IT IS possible to stop economic migrants under EU law.

France, Belgium etc are perfectly decent countries so any non-EU citizens coming here from them should be classed as economic migrants and stopped. Assuming the government is serious about controlling immigration. Don’t hold your breath Eric Finch Toll Bar End
