Concern over use of ouija board at event

-

I HAVE just read the article in the Nuneaton and Coventry Telegraph on ghost hunting at the St Mary’s Guildhall (Aug 29).

I would like to flag up the fact that ouija boards (as it said in the article would be used) are very dangerous and have been proven to be so after investigation by the Catholic church and other people and organisations.

Therefore, I would respectfully request that you contact the Guildhall and notify them of this and that they may reconsider and not use it during the hunt to contact ghosts.

Maybe, they might even like to engage with a Catholic priest, who could bless the rooms and even possibly exorcise the building in a more successful attempt to rid it of these ghosts and poltergist activity and bring peace to the proceedings? Fiona Francis Brooks Nuneaton

Taxpayers foot bill for Godiva

SO the crazy bunch that call themselves councillors are at it again, blowing their own trumpets, banging their drums and bragging that we are the only city in the UK that puts on a free music festival. Yes, it is free for the people that are interested in that sort of thing; party-goers not just from Coventry but from towns and cities all over and students from all over the world. But the question I ask myself is who foots the bill for all the facilities such as toilets, first aid, police in and outside the event, park department staff, rubbish collection, clean-up staff when the event is over and all the other things that have to be arranged and paid for – even at a free event.

Well I can answer that question myself – we the taxpayers’ of this city will again be responsible for covering the costs.

While I will agree there are a lot of younger generations living here and are interested in modern music, there are a lot of older generation taxpayers that have no interest at all in modern music or activities such as this.

We the taxpayers have lost so many of the things and places we loved in Coventry in the name of progress. Is our War Memorial Park something else we are going to lose to make a free showground for events such as this? Or maybe the whole thing is put on as some attraction or entertainment for student population to enjoy while they are here?

Why is Coventry the only city in the UK to stage an event such as this for free? The one that the BBC put on cost the city’s taxpayers £300,000 and I am willing to bet this will be a lot more.

This is tax money that should be spent on facilities that are needed by the Coventry people, not free entertainment for anyone that comes along. Councillors should be looking at ways to encourage people that are interested in our city and its history to visit and enjoy the history we have before it is all destroyed. Ken Giles Mount Nod

YouGov survey is a load of tripe

THE survey from YouGov that puts Coventry 51st out of 57 is a load of tripe.

Coventry is one of the UK’s greatest cities which is to be UK City of Culture in 2021. Godiva Festival brings together more people than even Glastonbury. Also, our Transport Museum is a world beater. Ian Harris Radford
