More flats up for grabs at former city Co-op

- By LAURA HARTLEY News Reporter laura.hartley@reachplc.com

THE first batch of luxury apartments in Coventry’s former Co-op building is set to go on sale.

A quarter of those homes released so far have already been snapped up at a VIP preview event earlier in the year.

However people who weren’t so lucky then are about to get another chance.

Developer EDG Property is holding a public launch of the building on Thursday September 27, where more of the flats will be released.

They will also be revealing more details on the regeneration of the much-loved departent store.

The building features 63 one and two-bedroom apartments, which offer open-plan living and luxury fittings throughout, including Porcelanosa kitchens and bathrooms.

The apartments are set within the 1950s building, where EDG Property has maintained the character of the much-loved store but has pulled it into the 21st Century, offering the region’s only internal park as well as a stylish residents’ lounge with sky terrace.

The residential element of the scheme is complemented by a mix of office space, cafe bars and restaurants which are attracting major interest, with Cafe Morso and Steak Out already signed up to The Co-Operative.

There’s also a new never-seen before image of the inside park that has been released.

There’s only six months until the building work is set to be complete, and Neil Edginton, director of EDG Property said the interest on the building has exceeded any expectations.

He said: “With six months to go in the build programme we have reached a key stage in the development.

“We knew because of the popularity of the former department store, that there would be huge interest in The Co-Operative, but the level of anticipation has surpassed our high expectations.

“To be more than 25 per cent sold on the apartments already and to have significant interest in the cafe bars and restaurant space, is extremely positive news.

“We made a commitment to the city before we began the project, to make this the highest-quality development of city centre apartments in Coventry and that’s why we are achieving the interest and the values we are seeing.

“Genuinely, this is the kind of project that you don’t normally see outside of the capital and the launch is a chance for people to learn more and sign up to buy a piece of Coventry’s history - and its future.”

Retail Transport Services has moved into the former supermarket to expand.

The company, which works with suppliers and hauliers to transport freight by sea, air and road, are taking on a new accounts and administration apprentice through Coventry and Warwickshire Chamber Training. And bosses also confirmed they may look to expand further, potentially creating even more jobs.

The firm will be based in Hawkins, the office element of the Co-Operative development, on Corporation Street. The launch is taking place at The Co-operative in the afternoon and evening of September 27 and representatives from sales agent Knight Frank will be on-hand to discuss buyers’options.
