Emma’s great new looks for Autumn

- JOANNE watkinson

AS THE good ship London Fashion Week rolled into town showcasing spring/summer 2019, it brought with it the usual flurry of front row celebs – a mix of familiar faces and some so young I had to Google them (not an admission I make lightly as it shows my age).

This season brought some big anniversaries, including Victoria Beckham who is celebrating 10 years since she launched her namesake label, a huge milestone given it’s critically successful on both sides of the pond. No mean feat for a former Spice Girl who has made more than her fair share of very public fashion faux pas.

By way of celebration VB posed up a storm in a rehash of her 2008 Marc Jacobs campaign photos – where she was pictured legs akimbo in a giant shopping bag – and coined it #VBbagchallange, prompting a slew of spoofs involving Lidl and IKEA bags. Probably not exactly what Mrs Beckham had in mind but all in good humour.

Another industry doyenne, Kate Moss has also been seen out and about celebrating the launch of the new Mario Sorrenti book “Kate”, which as you might have guessed, is a collection of beautiful images of the supermodel in her early days and the perfect coffee table book for fashion lovers.

On the catwalks the shows kicked off with Preen, Simone Rocha and Julien Macdonald with Vogue editor Edward Enninful showing not only due diligence, but his fashion prowess, by being FROW at designers such as JW Anderson.

One of my favourite moments so far had to be Alice Temperley having her mum model in her runway show, looking entirely at ease amongst a stellar cast of muses including Peaky Blinders star Helen McCrory. It felt entirely modern and completely relatable for her sequin-loving, glamorous bohemian customers.

Off-catwalk I loved Pandora Sykes in her #gannigirls maxi dress paired with Bugsy Malone-style brogues. Quirky and irreverent, it was the perfect outfit for London Fashion Week.
