TWO MEN SHOT NEAR CITY CENTRE

POLICE are investigat­ing a shooting in Coventry after two men suffered gunshot injuries.

Officers were called to Far Gosford Street at around 11.30pm on Monday night (September 17) and a short while later two men turned up at hospital with gunshot wounds.

Their injuries are not thought to be life-threatenin­g.

A section of Far Gosford Street at the junction of Bramble Street was still cordoned off yesterday morning.

Police also cordoned off All Saints’ Square, a small park between Sky Blue Way and Far Gosford Street.

One witness, who did not wish to be named, claimed “shots were fired” outside a chicken shop on Far Gosford Street at around 11pm and that there were a large number of armed response officers at the scene.

There are also reports that the police helicopter was up around the Hillfields area at around midnight.

A spokespers­on for West Midlands Police said: “Police are investigat­ing a shooting in Coventry after officers were called to Far Gosford Street at around 11.30pm last night (Monday 17 September).

“A short time later two men, aged 18 and 21, presented at hospital with gunshot injuries which are not thought to be life-threatenin­g.

“Enquiries remain ongoing and anyone with informatio­n is asked to call police on 101, quoting log number 2915 of 17/09/18.”
