BUBBLE TEA IS ALL THE RAGE AND THERE’S A NEW SHOP SET TO OPEN AS PART OF THE BURGES REVAMP

A NEW Bubble Tea cafe looks set to be coming to Coventry city centre after a planning application was submitted.

An empty unit on Cross Cheaping will be transformed from a recruitment shop to the new cafe.

It will sit next to another recruitment agency, just a few doors up from McDonalds.

There’s currently at least three other Bubble Tea cafes in Coventry: one in FarGo Village, one in Cannon Park Shopping Centre and the other in West Orchards.

A supporting statement on the planning document says the cafe will not be serving hot food, only the traditional tea-based drinks.

It also states the proposed cafe ‘will encourage growth of the surrounding businesses and will enhance the area.’

The area around Cross Cheaping is about to undergo a huge transformation to bring a new look to the Burges.

The planning application has been submitted, but prior approval is not required.

Back in June, the Telegraph revealed the multi-million pound plans to open up the Burges and the city’s underground river were moving a step closer.

It will see the area around the Burges transformed in the same style as Far Gosford Street and bring in improvements to attract tourists, shoppers and new businesses.

The whole scheme is aimed at not just improving the appearance of the Burges, but also bringing in more shoppers and visitors to help businesses flourish.

The area is seen as an ideal choice for restoration and regeneration as it is one of the city centre’s last surviving pre-war streets, with features that can be traced back to medieval times and a number of listed buildings.

There have also been improvements to nearby areas of the city centre and any new works would help attract tourists who are visiting the neighbouring Transport Museum and Old Grammar School.

Bubble tea is all the rage around the country, but it’s actually been a hot (or cold) favourite in countries like Hong Kong, China and Taiwan since the 1980s.

Bubble tea is a Taiwanese recipe made by blending a tea base with milk, fruit and fruit juices, then adding the signature “bubbles” – tapioca pearls that sit at the bottom.

These fruit or tea infusions can be served either piping hot or iced cold, making a delicious and quirky drink and snack.
