Another stabbing on city street

A MAN is in a critical condition in hospital after another stabbing on the streets of Coventry.

Police were called to Victoria Street, Hillfields, to reports of a disorder in the early hours of Thursday morning.

When paramedics arrived on scene, a 56-year-old was found with serious stab injuries.

A police van was stationed at every junction of Victoria Street where the area was cordoned off.

Parts of Canterbury Street was also cordoned off while forensics teams carried out investigat­ions.

West Midlands Police said they were first called to reports of a disorder, and found a man with serious stab injuries.

A spokesman said: “Police were called to Victoria Street at around 2.30am this morning (20 September) to reports of disorder.

“A man was found in the street with serious stab injuries. The 56-year-old is in hospital in a critical condition and police have sealed off Victoria Street and a part of Canterbury Street for forensic examinatio­n.

“Detectives are also exploring CCTV in the area and asking for witnesses to contact them quoting log 182 of 20/9.

Residents in Hillfields told the Telegraph that they are not surprised to hear of violence on the street and said it was not uncommon to hear sirens at night.

One said the area was getting worse for violence and drug use, and there were not enough police to control it.

Several resources from West Midlands Ambulance Service were sent to the scene.

A spokesman said: “We were called at 2.27am to reports of a patient who had been assaulted in Victoria Street.

“Two ambulances and a paramedic area officer were sent to the scene. On arrival, they found a male with multiple injuries and a reduced level of consciousn­ess.

“Following treatment at the scene, he was transporte­d to hospital via ambulance.”
