Dave has a hole lot of success

A COVENTRY golfer who celebrates his 80th birthday this month has achieved the nearimpossible.

Dave Phillips, a member of Coventry’s Windmill Golf Club, got two holes-in-one on one round.

He said he played a round on Wednesday, but had to play the first nine holes twice due to the greens on the back nine holes being treated.

Dave, who has been a member at the club on the A45 near Allesley for years, said it wasn’t his first hole-in-one this year.

He said: “The back nine holes of the course were being treated so what we had to do was play the first nine twice.

“The first time we went off I got a hole in one on the third hole and on the second time I got one on the second hole.

“I must be the luckiest person in golf.

“It isn’t the first time it has happened to me.

“I’ve had four since July.

“I have had to get the rounds in, but that is just the way it is.”

Dave is 80 this month, and has been a member at the club for over a decade.

He normally plays with a group of his friends, and on this round, they couldn’t believe what they were seeing. He put it down to sheer luck. Dave added: “When I hit the balls, it looked like they were going in, but it was almost unbelievable.

“One of the guys i was playing with said, that is going in, and when we got round to the green 160 yards away, I saw it in the hole.

“It was a hard hole as well as it was a blind green and I couldn’t see the hole.

“On the other hole in one, we were looking for one of the other guy’s balls as we didn’t see where that went, and when we found his, we were still looking for mine. It was only on the off chance we saw it in the hole.

“We were all laughing about it, but I think it is just luck really.

“I mean four holes in one since July is just ridiculous really.”
