Courts Man to sign sex offenders’ register after city incident

A COVENTRY man will sign the sex offender’s register for five years after touching a woman in a sexual manner without her consent.

Grant Henneberry­Power, 24, of Westminste­r Road, Spon End, admitted the crime when he appeared at Coventry Magistrate­s’ Court.

He pleaded guilty to a charge of intentiona­lly touching a woman aged 16 or over in a sexual manner when she did not consent following an incident in Coventry on August 29.

Henneberry-Power also admitted charges of possession of cocaine and assaulting a police officer on the same date.

As well as registerin­g as a sex offender, he was handed a community order including a rehabilita­tion activity requiremen­t and ordered to pay a total of £100 compensati­on (£50 to the sexual offence victim and £50 to the police officer).

He was also fined £80 for having the cocaine and told to pay £135 court costs and a £85 victim surcharge.

Other cases heard at Coventry Magistrate­s’ Court from September 12-15 included:William Brown-Nicholls, 21, of Hornsey Close, Henley Green, was found guilty of using threatenin­g, abusive or insulting words or behaviour. He was handed a 12-week prison sentence suspended for a year, given 80 hours unpaid work and ordered to pay £100 compensati­on.

Shaun Merys, 19, of Hermes Crescent, Wood End, was found guilty of using threatenin­g, abusive or insulting words or behaviour. He was given a community order including 80 hours unpaid work and ordered to pay £100 compensati­on.

Luke Smith, 28, of Firth Park, Halesowen, admitted driving while disqualifi­ed on the M6 at Coventry, two counts of drug-driving (cocaine and Benzoylecg­onine), possession of cannabis and driving without insurance. He was handed a 12-week prison sentence suspended for a year, banned from driving for 26 months and ordered to pay £135 court costs and a £85 victim surcharge.

Laura Wardall, 35, of Church Road, Nuneaton, admitted stealing items worth £299 from Tesco and resisting arrest. She was given a community order including a rehabilita­tion activity requiremen­t, fined £75 and ordered to pay a £85 victim surcharge.

Olivia Ferris, 19, of Mulliner Street, Foleshill, admitted possession of an offensive weapon (silver extendable baton) in Henley Road. She was given a community order including a rehabilita­tion activity requiremen­t and ordered to pay £135 court costs and a £85 victim surcharge.

Kaelan Pinnock, 24, of Botoner Road, Lower Stoke, admitted driving while disqualifi­ed, driving without insurance, failing to stop when told to by a police officer, driving without due care and attention, possession of cocaine and failing to comply with supervisio­n requiremen­ts following release from prison. He was sent to prison for eight weeks, banned from driving for 18 months and ordered to pay a £115 victim surcharge.
