Outstanding theatre on our doorsteps

-

ONE of Ken Dodd’s famous quotes was that “Theatre is the total entertainment experience.” How right he was. If he was looking down on the Belgrade Theatre’s production of Evita recently, he would have been doubly impressed. It was absolutely outstanding. I believe there are many others that share this view, since most of the audience were up on their feet at the end giving the cast, crew, and production team a long, well deserved standing ovation. I was completely blown away by this show. You dont need to go to the West End in London when on your doorstep there is theatre of the highest quality. I am sure there are many people in Coventry who rarely go to the theatre. I would urge more Coventrians to get down to the Belgrade. We are so lucky to have this amazing venue in our own city. I noticed before the show there were coaches outside attracting theatregoers from outside our city, which made me think that if we had another music concert venue in the centre of Coventry to compliment the Belgrade, we really would bring in more trade and business to the new restaurants in Broadgate.

Nothing against students, but my worry is that so much space is being used up by student accommodation. How about a location somewhere in the centre for another major concert hall to attract even more people into Coventry like the Symphony Hall in Birmingham?

Come on city councillors. As a UK City of Culture this would give greater strength to our status as a Midlands city. Barry Seal Binley
