COVENTRY saw a big jump in the number of burglaries this summer with more than eight a day in July.

A total of 268 burglaries were reported to police in the city that month which was a big increase on the previous month with 195 recorded incidents in June.

The rise in burglaries was most visible in the Binley, Willenhall and Cheylesmore police area which soared from just 13 crimes in June to 35 in July – nearly three times as many.

There were, however, three other areas with more reported burglaries; Stoke and Wyken (50), Sherbourne, Bablake, Whoberley and Earlsdon (37), and St Michaels (36).

The lowest number was again in Longford where 16 burglaries were reported to West Midlands Police.

The description of a burglary on the police.uk website say it is an offence ‘where a person enters a house or other building with the intention of stealing.’

The ‘Crime Map’ section of the police.uk website allows you to see how many incidents were reported in your area – and even your street if applicable – with a breakdown of types of offences and what stage the investigation is at.
