Revealed: The most popular pet names in Coventry

- By CLAIRE MILLER

SHOUT out ‘Bella’ to call back your pet in Coventry and you may find several cats and dogs heading in your direction - it’s our favourite pet name.

According to data based on pet names entered on GoCompare by owners looking for pet insurance, Bella was the most common in the CV postcode - followed by Alfie, Poppy, Charlie and Molly.

Max was sixth, with Lola, Ruby, Daisy and Bailey completing the top 10.

Among the pet names that are more common in the CV postcode than across the UK as a whole were Bella, George, Frank, Louie, Beau and Ruby.

Names that you are less likely to find in the CV postcode than nationally were Barney, Jasper, Harley, Jack, and Lily.

More unusual pet names recorded in the CV postcode included Dusty, Flo, Puss, Jacob, Jasmine, Zulu, Dougal and Iris.

There were two of each of those logged by GoCompare.

GoCompare analysed 500,000 pet names entered by owners looking for pet insurance quotes over the past two years in order to find the UK’s most popular cat and dog names.

The local data does not show the most popular names for cats and dogs separately.

Nationally, however, the most popular name for cats was Charlie with Bella, Poppy, Molly and Oscar making up the rest of the top five.

Bella was the most popular name for dogs, followed by Alfie, Poppy, Charlie and Max.

GoCompare also looked at how popular culture influences how we name our pets.

Ghost, Sansa and Arya were the most popular choices inspired by Game of Thrones, while there are potentially almost as many pets called Khaleesi as babies (GoCompare counted 50).

Perhaps unsurprisingly, the Lion King is the big Disney inspiration for pet names, with Nala and Simba coming top.

Albus and Sirius were the top picks from Harry Potter (GoCompare found four pets called Harry Potter), while Leia and Yoda were top for Star Wars inspired names.

Among the popular food themed pet names were Cookie, Biscuit, Muffin, Pumpkin and Noodle.
