HE did it!

Father-of-two Jag Dhami has reached base camp on Mount Everest – and has raised almost £3,000 for Cancer Research UK.

In a message to friends, family and supporters, Jag, from Earlsdon, described the challenge as “the hardest thing I’ve ever done, but it’s been very enjoyable”.

“After a lot of tears, sweat, blood and walking... I’ve made it to base camp,” he wrote.

“I want to thank everyone who has already donated to Cancer Research UK. I’m only a couple of hundred pounds short of £3,000 so please forward to friends and family, any donations would be appreciated. Thank you x”

Jag decided to take on the challenge to mark his milestone 50th birthday next year.

He set off on October 5 to make the 5,380m journey to Everest base camp.

“I’ve always been fascinated with Everest and the Himalayas,” he said before he left.

“I love the outdoors and the mountains, I’ve been snowboarding for the last 15 years.”

Jag explained why he chose Cancer Research UK: “A very worthwhile charity...we’ve all lost loved ones to this illness and I hope I can raise a substantial amount.” Jag is now making his way back to Lukla to get a flight back to Kathmandu.
