Ultimate sacrifice made by animals

-

I SHOULD like to remind people of the ultimate sacrifice made by millions of animals and birds during the years of human conflict and wars.

On Remembrance Sunday a purple wreath will be laid at the Whitehall Memorial gates to commemorate these silent victims.

These include thousands of horses facing horrendous conditions on the battlefields.

Many never to return and pigeons carrying vital messages across enemy lines risking their lives on a daily basis.

Vast numbers of animals on farms, for instance, became victims when bombing started.

Invictus Games great success

THIS year’s Invictus Games in Australia have now closed and the next are, I understand, likely to be in the Netherlands in 2020. The Games, for Service personnel affected in various ways by serving their respective countries, were a great success. We must all admire the determination and courage shown by so many participants. I also admire the Duke and Duchess of Sussex for their whole-hearted support. The Duke launched the original concept and, with his wife, attracted great publicity, reminding us of how much we owe to those who risk so much to protect us. Best wishes to them all. Cllr. David Skinner Westwood Ward
