Royal Oak still reigns supreme
REVEALED: THE MOST POPULAR PUB NAMES ACROSS OUR REGION
EVERYONE has a favourite pub they like to go to for a tipple every once in a while.
But while there are plenty of pubs, bars and hotels across Coventry and Warwickshire to choose from, you might not have realised that many share the same name.
So here at the Coventry Telegraph we have compiled a list – sadly without visiting each pub for a swift pint – to find the most common pub names in our region.
With such a classic name, it is perhaps unsurprising that The Royal Oak is the most popular name across Coventry and Warwickshire.
In total, there are 11 pubs, bars, hotels and even bed and breakfasts with that name, in locations including Coventry, Nuneaton and Rugby.
But The Royal Oak is far from the only pub in the region with a namesake or two, or more.
Two others come close, with nine apiece – Red Lion and Bell Inn.
In Rugby, there are two Red Lions, located just two miles apart.
Coventry and Warwickshire also has five Green Mans and five Queens Heads.
There are four Black Horses, four Bulls Heads, and four Railway Inns.
Befitting the region’s literary heritage, there are also three Shakespeare Inns. The data is taken from records of more than 70,000 pubs, bars, nightclubs, hotels and bed and breakfasts across the UK on the Food Standards Agency website.
Any establishment preparing or serving food has to be registered with the FSA.
The Red Lion is the most popular name across the whole of the UK, with 339 in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.
There are 300 Royal Oaks, 217 Crown Inns plus 110 Crowns - and 207 New Inns.
The data shows that, in all, there are 1,048 pubs, B&Bs, hotels, nightclubs and bars registered with the FSA in Coventry and Warwickshire.
