Seven-try Kenilworth go through

-

KENILWORTH reached the Midlands Intermediate Cup fourth round with a 39-7 away win at Stafford.

With 12 different names on the team sheet from the previous week’s league victory away at Southam, it was a much-changed side but David Ellis’s men scored seven tries to earn a home tie against Market Rasen & Louth on Saturday, November 24.

Charlie Stevens scored a hat-trick, with further tries coming from Dan Retter, David Bromfiel Tom Naismith and Sam Williams.

Old Laurentians progressed courtesy of a walk-over win against Southwell, their reward is a home tie against Lincoln.

Also in the hat is Barkers Butts after defeating Leek 31-27 to secure another home tie against Olney.

Earlsdon’s journey ended with a 30-15 defeat at Lincoln.

Berskwell and Balsall moved into the next round with a 15-10 win at home to Dunstablians.

Tries by centre Ryan Coates and scrum-half Ollie Eburne, who added five points with the boot, booked Berkswell and Balsall an away game against Northampton Casuals on Saturday, November 24.

Captain James Fahy said: “We played well and controlled most of the game but again gave away stupid penalties that gave the opposition the opportunity to gain territory and put pressure on us. We also need to be more clinical in the final third but we’re pleased to continue our cup run.”

Shipston-on-Stour defeated Old Saltleians 41-7 to secure a fourth round home tie with Daventry, while Old Coventrians and Earlsdon’s cup runs ended with defeats at Olney (40-10) and Lincoln (30-15), respectively.
