Former girl band star in Cov for Xmas festival

- By JAMES RODGER

A CHART-TOPPING singer and a former member of one of Britain’s most successful girl bands will be coming to Coventry for a festive street party.

Sugababes star Mutya Buena will be calling into The Yard in the city centre on Saturday, December 1 to celebrate the holidays.

Mutya will be performing as the venue hosts its very first Snowball Street Party and everyone is invited along.

She will be joined by TV stars Kieron Richardson and Jorgie Porter who played Ste and Theresa on Hollyoaks, drag acts such as The Saturnos, fire eaters and stilt walkers at the event, which will begin at 4pm.

The line-up of performers will be completed by singer Marcella Woods who will perform her hit track Beautiful and artist Platnum who will perform Love Shy, plus the gospel choir as seen on BBC’s All Together Now.

A dance marquee will be set up in the Bull Yard, as well as outside bar areas and the whole event will be raising money for World Aids Day.

The Snowball Street Party comes after two successful street parties at the venue and Richard Easter, owner of The Yard, hopes the Christmas one will be just as popular.

“This is the third time we have done a street party and we wanted to make it the biggest and best yet with it being for Christmas,” said Richard.

“We so pleased that Mutya is coming along to help us celebrate the festive season at The Yard and the city centre.

“Everyone is welcome to come along, enjoy all the acts and special guests and get into the spirit of the holidays, as well as support our drive to raise as much money as possible for World Aids Day.”

The street party is part of the city centre’s line up of Christmas activities which are supported by the Coventry Business Improvement District (BID).

Director of Coventry BID, Trish Willetts, added: “We’re thrilled to be supporting The Yard with their Snowball Street Party event, as part of the wide range of Christmas events happening across the city.

“The event has an amazing line-up performing, so we’re looking forward to seeing everyone and also raising money for a worthy cause at the same time.

“Head down on December 1 and enjoy all the wonderful entertainment that The Yard has to offer.”
