Idling youths should be sent to the army Christmas concert at Exhall Grange

-

AFTER reading about yet another stabbing on the streets of Coventry, perhaps the time has come for every youth hanging around should be stopped and searched, no questions asked.

If found out-of-work idling, and if found ‘tooled up’ as they call it, they should be wheeled straight into the army. Seeing as they seem to like hiding behind the camouflage of hoodies etc.

Give them an army uniform and weapon and make them hide on a street in Basra or wherever. Don’t waste money on court cases and puny prosecutions, straight in – no question. K J Clarke Wyken

Criminal suspects have a right to life

THE Metropolitain Police have been given the green light to deliberately ram into suspects to knock them off their mopeds. Have the police now stooped so low that this is now an acceptable practice? I fully understand that the police have a job to do, but to deliberately drive into a rider with the intention of knocking them off is practically attempted murder. Even suspected criminals are human beings and have a right to life. This is a slippery slope and a violation of a person’s human rights. It is only a matter of time until some one is killed, then what? We are rapidly sinking into a police state where a human life has no value Jessica ReeceKhan Cannon Park EXHALL Grange Specialist School invites you to kickstart your Christmas by coming along to their annual Christmas band concert on Monday, December 3.

It is a lovely evening with children singing, teachers reciting, a choir, a ukelele band and the renowned Warwickshire Band of Royal Fusiliers.

All for a nominal amount including tea and biscuits.

The concert in the school hall starts at 7.30pm at Exhall Grange Specialist School, Easter Way, Ash Green, Coventry CV7 9HP. Parking in school car park.

Hope to see you there. David Monks MBE Coundon

Let’s spend money on our own citizens

AFTER reading Richard Allen’s letter (Nov 24), I have to agree with him.

Most public services in this country are greatly underfunded, and the old reason given that this is due to austerity, is wearing thin.

Yes, the government must keep a tight rein on the economy, and not overspend so plunging the country into more debt; but why must we keep borrowing huge amounts of money to give to other countries?

Great Britain is always the first to give aid abroad when there is a humanitarian crisis; but as suggested in your correspondent’s letter, we are heading for one here.

The crime wave, homelessness and overcrowding in schools, as well as hospitals and surgeries being pushed to their limit, only exacerbate the situation.

So instead of sending billions to the EU and more billions in foreign aid, let us spend that money on our own citizens, who after all, are the ones who have earned it. Peter Surtees Bedworth

Project Fear is still scaring people

THE mainstream media need to stop referring to leaving the EU with no deal and start referring to what it actually is, which is a WTO deal and these are the rules that 164 countries operate under and which also accounts for 98 per cent of global trade.

Another prime example of Project Fear trying to scare people unnecessarily. Paul Sheehan Binley

Keep public places smoke smell-free

MPs on the All-Party Parliamentary Group for Vaping have said that the Houses of Parliament should become a vape-friendly zone as part of efforts to make vaping more acceptable in public places (Nov 20).

What a shame as we have enjoyed the lack of smells and smoke in all public places. Fred Foster Radford
