- By BOBBY BRIDGE Deontay Wilder

NEWBOLD-ON-AVON top Midlands One West at the season’s half-way stage after a memorable 28-14 victory at Malvern.

A return of 12 victories from 13 games and 10 bonus points has been matched by Bromsgrove, with Newbold, who travel to Worcester on Saturday, holding top sport courtesy of points difference superiority of just 11 points.

Rugby Lions’ second half of the season commences with a 13-point buffer above the Midlands One East bottom three.

Tries from Chris Wood and Alex Tansley, Sam James, Charlie Paxton threatened Lutterworth’s 100 per cent home record but the Leicestershire side benefited from a raft of Lions’ yellow cards to win 31-26.

Lions will wrap up their league campaign for the year by hosting Northampton Old Scouts at Webb Ellis Road.

The visitors occupy 12th spot, meaning Dave Addleton’s Lions can widen the gap on the relegation zone this side of Christmas before reconvening their league campaign on January 5.
