Business brains in festive quiz battle

-

BUSINESS brains from across the region went head-to-head at a festive contest to raise money for community projects.

Heart of England Community Foundation has held its annual Christmas quiz at PSA (Peugeot) Group’s headquarters in Coventry. The event saw 17 teams don their Christmas jumpers and test their knowledge on subjects ranging from film and music to sport and current affairs.

The Friendship Project, a Warwickshire charity that matches young people in need to volunteers, were triumphant on the evening with a top score of 73.

A bumper raffle featuring top prizes including afternoon tea vouchers, football tickets, spa vouchers, festive hampers and bottles of fizz was also held to boost the fundraising total.

The event raised £950 for the Tina Costello said the quiz was a huge success foundation, a grant-making charity which distributes funding to community projects across the West Midlands which make a difference at grassroots level.

Tina Costello, CEO of Heart of England Community Foundation, said: “The quiz was a huge success and a really fun way to raise funds for some incredible causes at Christmas time.

“Everyone really got into the festive spirit of the evening and we saw some fantastic Christmas jumpers and t-shirts on display.

“I’d like to congratulate all of the teams that took part, and it was brilliant to see The Friendship Project, an organisation which we have supported with four grants totalling £15,000 in 2018, crowned the winners.” OUR staff have been sharing their thoughts, feelings and memories of Christmas at Myton. At Myton, we try to make our hospices a ‘home away from home’ for those who spend the festive period with us.

■■ Jane – staff nurse: “We have a Christmas Party week at Warwick. The Christmas lunch each day is lovely; the table is set for 20, where patients and volunteers all eat together. Children come in and sing carols, which are very emotional.”

■■ Annie – staff nurse: “My most memorable Christmas at Myton was quite a few years ago when I was working on the Inpatient Unit (IPU). It was Christmas Day and I was sitting with a young lady who was very poorly. People were singing carols in the communal area which we could hear from her room. She reached out to hold my hand while listening to them, and I’ve never forgotten that moment.”

■■ Faye and Nicola – Myton at Home nursing assistants: “Christmas for us is definitely harder and very quiet because most other people aren’t working. You leave your family and kids at home but know that you get to go home at night and be with them; it puts it all into perspective, you appreciate what you’ve got even more.” ■■ CONGRATULATIONS to the lucky winners of our Christmas Super Draw which took place on Friday, December 14. The top prize of £10,000 went to No.2002585. Second prize of Arden’s Luxury Christmas Hamper went to No.324914 and the third prize of £50 went to No.146301.
