WHETHER it’s a quiet night out having slap up meal and a couple of drinks, or seeing in 2019 with a bang, we have got the events going on in Coventry and Warwickshi­re covered.

Some restaurant­s are doing some great deals on dinner on New Year’s Eve – with some even giving out some compliment­ary champers and Prosecco, but we also have a list of the local nightclubs offering some great events.

Fancy a tipple and a cheeky bet too? Warwick Races are holding another event this year following last year’s success when more than 6,000 people celebrated at the racecourse.

We’ve rounded up the best of the region’s events so you can start the year as you mean to go on.

Cosy Club Gatsby night: The Cosy Club’s famous 1920s Gatsby Gladrags event is back in 2018 for the New Year’s Eve Shindig. The table is yours for the evening from 6pm -2am.

Enjoy the following treats as part of this event: A welcome cocktail, canapes on arrival, four course meal, Prosecco toast at midnight, music from a 1920s themed band, fancy dress photo booth memento. All for £54.95 per person.

Warwick Castle banquet: Bring in the New Year with an evening of enthrallin­g entertainm­ent and fine food in the grand surroundin­gs of the Great Hall at Warwick Castle.

Be captivated by the story of two families locked in a feud stretching through time. But be prepared everything is not quite what is seems! Following the banquet and entertainm­ent enjoy a disco and welcome in the New Year with Warwick Castle’s finest characters.

Glass of Prosecco and canapes served on arrival in the State Rooms, five course dinner served in the grand surroundin­gs of the Great Hall, live entertainm­ent and music and welcome the New Year in with a glass of Champagne. Price: £135.00 per person.

Coombe Abbey: Coombe Abbey are once again ringing in the New Year in the only way they know how. With an extravagan­t ball, a night of feasting, and songs in the shape of their famous Medieval Banquet.

The evening will include: Beaker of mead cocktail, canapes, four course feast, goblets of wine and ale, stage show, disco, highland piper, firework display.

Warwick Races: Warwick Racecourse has already seen a record number of pre-sales for tickets ahead of this year’s fixture, as racegoers look to finish the year on a winner.

The raceday will feature a busy afternoon with seven races taking place, the first getting underway at 12.25pm and the last 3.35pm.

In the ‘Auld Lang Syne’ Shed there will be charity whisky tasting to take part in, with a selection of six different malts to choose from. All funds raised will be donated to the Air Ambulance Service.

There is also the chance for racegoers to win tickets to Warwick’s Gentlemen’s Raceday on Saturday, February 9 - with on-the-spot prizes awarded for the racegoers dressed in ‘the classic’ racing attire.

FAMILY PERFORMANC­ES

Sunrise festival: Sunrise is a family-friendly experience at Coventry Cathedral ruins that will take its audience through the transition from darkness to light as the beginning of 2019 approaches.

The event will see graduating colour changes over the duration of three 20-minute performanc­es through a light installati­on brought to life by an atmospheri­c, electronic

soundscape entitled “Sunrise Sonata”.

It will culminate in a dramatic performanc­e as the clock ticks over to midnight and the beginning of 2019.

Jacqui Ibbotson, of Coventry City of Culture Trust, added: “We are all very excited to be bringing something new and immersive to the city this New Year’s Eve. It will be so special to see the Cathedral ruins bathed in light and colours, accompanie­d by a brand new soundscape.”

Sunrise is the stunning finale of Plumb Line Festival, a year-long festival celebratin­g 100 years of the Diocese and Coventry Cathedral and will run on

New Year’s Eve at 6pm, 9pm and midnight. Tickets are £6 (including booking fee) for over 16s and free for those under 16. Booking is essential.

Kids rave: Additional activity on New Year’s Eve includes a Big Fish Little Fish Children’s Rave, with glitter cannons, bubbles, giant balloons and a parachute dance finale.

It’s suitable for all ages and will start at 1pm and finish at 3pm with tickets priced at £8.

The New Cathedral Nave, near the magnificen­t West Screen window will be transforme­d into a multi-sensory dance floor complete with sounds provided by DJ Heavenly Jukebox who will be playing a range of music, including club classics.

The celebratio­ns continue in the main Cathedral from 7pm with a free moving light, sound and performanc­e extravagan­za throughout the night with DJs and a bar.

Local digital and visual artists are encouraged to BYOB – Bring Your Own Beamer – which will be projected onto the walls of the main Cathedral.
