Outrage at missed bin collections

- By ELIS SANDFORD News Reporter elis.sandford@reachplc.com

PARTS of Coventry were left without a bin collection for almost four weeks, after planned bin collections were not carried out as planned last Saturday (January 5).

And with some streets looking “like a refuse dump” by one resident, others have taken to our social media pages to express their views.

You can read some of the views below.

Dean Nightingale said: “Three weeks at the busiest time of the year.

“People taking taking their own rubbish to the tip.

“Bins in town were overflowing. “Another council balls up.

“If I was this bad at my job I would not be working.”

Sarah Louise said: “What’s going on with the recycling bags we were given? Just left in the streets, are they getting collected separately? Or gonna be blowing round the streets.”

Katy Butt said: “Can’t fault my bin men they do the best they can, our street kept everything tidy even though they were a few days late, they came today I gave them a caramel egg and said happy Easter they did laugh, life is too short for moaning.”

Candice McCann said: “...and yet our council tax is due to rise again ... anyone know how much it’s costing US as CCC have pulled in another company to collect the extra bags?...”

Tracy Clayton said: “What I don’t understand is they provided see through bags and yet the bin wagons yesterday have left them all over the streets by where I live and yet the council tax will increase and we are seeing less for it, fly-tipping seems to be at its worse in a long time again, looks horrible.”

Helen Pendleton said: “Saturday collection, yeah and then comes on Monday, they had better be collecting as normal this Friday, this council is such a waste of space, might keep my council tax payment in my bank a few extra days, they would soon be a letter in the post.”

Fran Lewis said: “They emptied the bins but left all the bags (those they provided and black bags used) sitting on the pavements all round by us.”

Katie Tiplady-Startin said: “Blue bins done but bags still waiting in Radford.”

Jane Baker said: “Our green bin suppose empty on Friday (a day late) they did came on Friday but only empty one bin which belong to my neighbours then left the rest of bin in my close not emptied. They didn’t came back till today.”

Samantha Lockhart said: “Emptied the bins one day late but left all the clear bags and extra recycling on the pavement since Saturday when they were supposed to collect!”

Natalie Allen Green said: “Bins were supposed to be collected last Friday still waiting. Bet they won’t take the extra bags! Street looks disgusting and it stinks.”

Coventry City Council said it hoped to have the issue resolved by the end of the week - a week later than planned.

A spokesman added: “Our crews were out last week collecting bins after Christmas and the New Year including extra recycling in clear sacks.

“We got to the vast majority of people, but we are asking anyone we have missed to leave their bins and sacks out and we will get to them.”
